The Body Was Never Asking for Obedience

People rarely come to nutrition because they want rules. They come because something stopped working quietly. Sleep thinned out. Energy flattened. Inflammation lingered. Moods narrowed. The body began sending signals that no longer fit inside the explanations they had been given. What usually follows is not curiosity but compliance, a turn toward protocols that promise relief if followed closely enough, long enough, correctly enough. For a while, this works. Relief often arrives before understanding.

What we mistake in that moment is the nature of the relief. The body is not responding to obedience. It is responding to temporary alignment. When alignment is confused with virtue, something subtle begins to erode.

Why compliance feels safer than interpretation

Compliance offers structure, and structure reduces anxiety, especially when symptoms feel unpredictable. Rules quiet the nervous system by externalizing judgment. Eat this. Avoid that. Track eve…
